I honestly believe it's better to start with REAL books and story-telling. In my experience of dealing with undergrads, the ability of young people to read into a book or research reports these days is deplorably low. I'm not being judgmental. // There is an old Chinese saying that water can keep a boat afloat yet topple the boat. This wise saying applies squarely to online activities nowadays. Well-used internet skills bring us to a huge reservoir of knowledge but the very same equipment can lead a kid astray. Most (not all) online games are based on fights, wars, romantic encounters etc. Some of them lure kids into the habit of cheating off an opponent's sword, helmet & so-on.... .... We shouldn't be too surprised to find students in HK and elsewhere becoming more and more problematic. I therefore strongly recommend that you choose a game software which suits your child. No shooting, no violence, and good luck!
Try www.abc.net.au/children/. Also, if you go to the www.abc.net.au site and click on the item at the top which says 'kids', you will find games, etc suitable for 6-year-olds. These are the people who produced the 'Bananas in Pyjamas' programmes.
Where can you buy Jumpstart interactive CDs in Hong Kong? Are there any other interactive CDs from other companies that you would recommend for 5 yr olds?
